Admissions

Whitchurch High School is a popular co-educational maintained comprehensive school with almost 2,400 pupils on roll. The school is based on two sites in the suburb of Whitchurch. Years 7, 8 and 9 are based on the lower school site off Manor Way, with Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 students on the upper school site in the Village.

We are an inclusive school and have a SEN Specialist Resource Base (SRB/Ty Calon Centre) on both sites which admits up to seventy pupils from throughout the city. Cardiff Council separately administers all admissions for the SRB in partnership with the school.

As a Foundation School the governors are the Admissions Authority and therefore directly manage all mainstream admissions.

Sixth Form

The following link will take you to the log on screen for the sixth form admission form and associated documents: https://whitchurchhighschool.applicaa.com/sixthform

The deadline for this form to be completed for the first round of admissions is 3rd March 2023.

Internal students will receive a username and temporary password via their school email during the week beginning 23rd January 2023 (please check the junk email folder if it hasn’t arrived). This will allow them to log in to access the application form which will have a number of sections already completed with information we hold on Sims. Some additional information will then need to be added. When completing the admissions form, students will be asked to read two documents (sixth form admission requirements and sixth form student contract) and discuss the content with a parent/carer. They will then need to tick a box to confirm that they have discussed the content and that they have read, understood and agree with the content of each policy. These documents can be viewed below.  Subject choices will then need to be made at www.sims-options.co.uk between the 13th February and the 3rd March when the option grid is available.  Students will need to sign in to options online using their school email and password. Please click here for instructions on how to complete the admissions form and submit option choices.

External students will need to follow the link above to access the sixth form application page and select start new application. Basic information will need to be added to complete the initial registration. An email will then be sent to the address provided with a verification link (please check the junk email folder if it hasn’t arrived). Once the email has been validated, the application form can be completed. When completing their application, students will be asked to read two documents (sixth form admissions requirements and sixth form student contract) and discuss the content with a parent/carer. They will then need to tick a box to confirm that they have discussed the content and that they have read, understood and agree with the content of each policy. These documents can be viewed below.

It is expected that the terms and conditions of the sixth form student contract must be adhered to by all students whilst at WHS Sixth Form.

If you require any further specific information, please read our Frequently Asked Questions or contact the sixth form team via email at sixthform-admissions@whitchurch.cardiff.sch.uk

Ty Calon Centre

Students are identified through the Annual Review Process in their Primary schools usually during year 5 and if the Ty Calon Centre at Whitchurch High School is a consideration, then parents are invited to visit.

Please note that staff at Whitchurch High School cannot decide who will be allowed a place.

This decision is made by the Case Advisory Panel, following all advice received during the student’s Annual Review process.

When the Statement is amended to show Whitchurch High School Ty Calon Centre as the placement for the student in year 7, then a Transition programme will be implemented. This will begin in the Summer Term in year 6.
