Geographers Take Part in Inspiring Town Planning Workshop
More than 40 of our Geography students recently took part in an engaging and thought-provoking town planning workshop, exploring the many factors that influence the places and communities in which we live.
Throughout the session, students investigated how planners balance key considerations such as sustainability, infrastructure, economic development, and community needs when shaping successful towns and cities. Through a range of interactive activities, they gained a valuable insight into the challenges and complexities of planning for the future.
Students were tasked with real-world scenarios, including designing transport solutions for Olympic athletes and debating the best locations for wind turbines. These activities encouraged them to think critically, consider different viewpoints, and appreciate the sometimes difficult decisions involved in creating places that are both functional and sustainable.
We were incredibly impressed by the way our students approached the workshop. They demonstrated excellent communication skills, thoughtful decision-making, and a genuine enthusiasm for the topics being discussed throughout the session.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to RTPI, Inspiring the Future, and the town planning professionals who generously shared their knowledge and experience with our students. Their expertise helped bring the subject to life and provided an inspiring glimpse into careers within the planning profession.
It was a fantastic opportunity for our young geographers, and one that will undoubtedly help broaden their understanding of how the world around them is shaped.
