Politics Students Experience Democracy First‑Hand on London Trip

Twenty‑seven Year 12 Politics students from Whitchurch High School enjoyed an inspiring and action‑packed two‑day visit to London, enriching their A‑Level studies with real‑world political experiences.

The trip began on Sunday with some sightseeing around the capital, followed by a relaxing Thames River cruise, giving students the chance to take in iconic landmarks from a new perspective.

Monday was dedicated to exploring the heart of UK democracy. Students were welcomed into the Palace of Westminster for a full guided tour, offering a rare opportunity to step inside both the House of Commons and the House of Lords. They gained valuable insights into parliamentary procedures, the history of the building and its role in shaping the nation’s political landscape.

Later in the afternoon, the group returned to Parliament to watch live debates from the public gallery. Seeing MPs in action provided an unforgettable glimpse into how national decisions are made and brought their classroom learning vividly to life.

Throughout the trip, students were exemplary ambassadors for the school and fully embraced every opportunity to deepen their understanding of British politics.

A hugely successful and enriching visit—well done to all involved.
