Year 10 Historians Explore London
Our Year 10 History students recently enjoyed an exciting and educational two-day visit to London, packed with opportunities to bring classroom learning to life while creating lasting memories with their peers.
The trip began with a visit to the Imperial War Museum, where students explored a range of fascinating exhibits and artefacts that enhanced their understanding of the World Wars and supported their studies of twentieth-century history. They then took part in a Medicine Through Time walking tour in Regent's Park, learning about key individuals, diseases, treatments, and developments in healthcare that form an important part of their GCSE studies.
Later in the day, students enjoyed exploring the vibrant atmosphere of Covent Garden, taking in the famous street performances and cultural surroundings before sharing an evening meal together.
The second day started with a hearty breakfast before students headed to one of the highlights of the trip, The London Dungeon, where they experienced an immersive journey through some of the capital's most famous historical events. They also had the opportunity to see many of London's iconic landmarks, including Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, the Houses of Parliament, Parliament Square, and Westminster Abbey.
The visit concluded with a trip to the Natural History Museum, where students explored the museum's world-renowned collections and exhibitions, rounding off a fantastic educational experience.
A special mention must go to Mrs Barkway, as this was her final school trip with Whitchurch High School before moving on to a new school in September. Mrs Barkway has made an enormous contribution to the History Faculty and has inspired countless students through her passion for the subject. She will be greatly missed by staff and students alike, and we wish her every success and happiness in the next stage of her career.
The trip was a wonderful combination of learning, exploration, and fun, and our students represented the school superbly throughout. It was an experience full of discovery, laughter, and memories that will last for years to come.
