Year 7s Inspire Young Readers on World Book Day
World Book Day is a celebration of reading, creativity, and the power of storytelling. At Whitchurch High School, we are committed to promoting literacy and fostering a love of books among our students. As part of this year’s World Book Day celebrations, our enthusiastic Year 7 students had the fantastic opportunity to visit and read to pupils at our local feeder primary schools: Whitchurch Primary, Llanishen Fach, Coryton, Birchgrove, and Hawthorn.
This initiative aimed to encourage younger children to develop a passion for reading while giving our Year 7 students the chance to build confidence in their own literacy skills. Reading aloud is a vital part of developing fluency and expression, and our students embraced the challenge, engaging younger pupils with a range of exciting and inspiring books.
Working closely with our feeder primaries strengthens our school community, reinforcing the importance of literacy from an early age. It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm from both our students and the primary pupils as they shared stories, discussed their favourite books, and celebrated the joy of reading together.
A huge thank you to Whitchurch Primary, Llanishen Fach, Coryton, Birchgrove, and Hawthorn for welcoming our students so warmly. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with our feeder schools to empower learners and promote a lifelong love of reading.
