Whitchurch High School Hosts Annual Senior Sports Dinner
Whitchurch High School recently hosted its annual Senior Sports Dinner at Whitchurch Sports and Social Club – a brilliant celebration of another outstanding year of sporting success and dedication. The evening brought together student-athletes, staff, and families to recognise achievements across a wide range of sports, highlighting the talent, teamwork, and determination that continue to define sport at Whitchurch High School.
We were delighted to welcome back former student Tom Davies as our guest speaker. Now a professional footballer with Newport County, Tom shared inspiring reflections on his journey through sport, from school competitions to the professional stage. His words resonated deeply with our young athletes, reinforcing the value of perseverance, ambition, and hard work.
The evening featured the presentation of the prestigious Players’ Player Awards for each team – a unique accolade voted for by teammates, honouring those who have made the greatest impact both on and off the field. In addition, special recognition was given to our Welsh international athletes, whose achievements on the national stage continue to make our school proud.
A particular highlight was the celebration of Rugby Academy coach Zeb Aporo, who recently achieved his WRU Level 4 coaching qualification – the highest level of coaching accreditation in Welsh rugby. This remarkable milestone reflects Zeb’s commitment to excellence and his vital contribution to the development of young players at Whitchurch.
Team captains delivered speeches full of pride, humour, and appreciation, sharing their personal highlights from the season and thanking their coaches, families, and peers for their support. The sense of community and camaraderie was felt throughout the evening, making it a night to remember.
As always, the Senior Sports Dinner served not only as a celebration of sporting achievements but also as a tribute to the values of resilience, respect, and aspiration that are embedded in our school ethos. We extend our sincere thanks to all those who helped organise this special event, and we congratulate all our award winners. We look forward to seeing our student-athletes continue to flourish in their sporting journeys.
