Students Take Part in STEM Showcase Morning
Year 7 students were given an exciting opportunity to explore the world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) through a hands-on showcase morning. Organised by the school, the event saw the participation of fifteen employers, each offering interactive and practical activities designed to ignite curiosity and encourage learning in various STEM fields.
The University of South Wales showcased part of an aircraft wing, used to teach students about the detection of corrosion caused by chemicals—a critical issue in aerospace engineering. Meanwhile, engineering company Renishaw impressed students with their advanced 3D printer, demonstrating how they manufacture Olympic track bikes featuring titanium components.
In addition to high-tech engineering, financial literacy was on display as Pepper Money introduced pupils to the concept of monthly budgeting, giving them a practical taste of real-world financial management. The Royal Navy provided a thrilling experience with an interactive gas turbine simulation, allowing students to explore the complexities of modern naval machinery.
This exciting STEM showcase gave pupils a hands-on introduction to the vast and varied world of STEM, while connecting them with employers and universities. It was a morning filled with innovation, learning, and inspiration, helping students to see the potential career paths available in STEM-related industries.
