Whitchurch High School Students Take Part in Powerful Words That Burn Showcase
A group of students from Whitchurch High School had the opportunity to participate in the Words That Burn showcase this week – an inspiring initiative that uses poetry to explore human rights, identity, and activism through creative expression.
Organised by Amnesty International in collaboration with Swansea University, Words That Burn encourages young people to reflect on global issues and express their thoughts through spoken word and performance poetry. The project provides a platform for young voices to be heard, celebrated, and empowered.
Miss Polly, at Whitchurch High School who led the visit, said: “It was a real privilege to see our students take part in such a meaningful and thought-provoking event. They spoke with honesty and courage, using poetry as a tool for expression and change. Projects like this help our students understand their power to make a difference.”
The students presented original pieces they developed as part of the programme, touching on themes such as justice, identity, equality, and hope. Their performances were met with enthusiasm and admiration by an audience of fellow students, educators, and invited guests.
Whitchurch High School is proud to support initiatives that allow students to engage with real-world issues creatively and critically. The event was not only a celebration of their talents but also a reminder of the power of words to inspire action.
