Whitchurch High School Rugby Academy Returns Unbeaten from Dubai Tour
Whitchurch High School Rugby Academy has returned home after a highly successful and unforgettable tour to Dubai, where the squad experienced competitive fixtures, cultural exploration, and team bonding activities in one of the world’s most vibrant cities.
The tour kicked off with a well-contested opening game against Dubai College, with the squad showing their skill and determination on the field. The players were warmly welcomed by their hosts, setting the tone for a memorable week both on and off the pitch.
Beyond rugby, the team immersed themselves in Dubai’s rich culture and stunning landscapes. A visit to the Souk markets gave students the chance to experience the city’s traditional trading hub, before unwinding at the beach for a well-earned afternoon of relaxation. Another highlight was the thrilling desert safari, where players tackled the towering sand dunes in 4x4 vehicles, before enjoying an evening of local entertainment under the stars.
The second fixture saw the team travel to Abu Dhabi, where they faced off against British School Al Khubairat (BSAK). It was an exciting match, with the Whitchurch squad demonstrating their resilience and teamwork.
After a morning boat trip taking in Dubai’s iconic skyline, the squad prepared for their final match of the tour against Dubai English Speaking College (DESC). In a closely fought contest, Whitchurch emerged victorious, ensuring an unbeaten tour record—a fantastic achievement for the team.
Away from the rugby, students explored Dubai’s modern attractions, visiting Dubai Mall, the world-famous Atlantis Water Park, and other sights that showcased the city’s unique blend of tradition and innovation.
Reflecting on the experience, Mr. Williams praised the squad: “This tour was an incredible opportunity for the players, both in terms of their rugby development and the life experiences they gained. The boys represented Whitchurch High School with pride, showing great spirit on and off the pitch. To come away unbeaten is a fantastic achievement, but just as important are the friendships and memories they’ve made along the way.”
With the tour providing invaluable experience for the squad, attention now turns to upcoming domestic fixtures, where the players will look to build on their success in Dubai.

Monday, 24th February. The second fixture was against BSAK in Abu Dhabi at the Zayed cricket stadium with a kick off at 15:00. We were expecting this to be the least demanding of the 3 games and accordingly selected a young starting side. We scored 10 tries through Reuben Burrows, Sam Evans, Tom Barber (2), Joseph Johnson, Will Davies, Rhys Thomas (2), Sam Scott (2). Rhys Thomas added 6 conversions and Joseph Johnson 3.
Tuesday, 25th February. The final fixture was against the side we expected to be the toughest DESC (Dubai English Speaking College) and this again proved accurate as they were a strong outfit with a significant South African presence. In an excellent tour finale the boys dug deep to register a 26 points to 21 victory and end up with a 100 % tour record despite a 26 to 2 penalty count against us. We scored 4 tries through Seb Antonio, Caiden Gough, Finn Pasley and Rhys Thomas with Fraser Britton adding 3 conversions in a commanding performance as fly half.
