The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
Whitchurch High School’s Drama Studio was once again transformed for this year’s Upper School Production, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, which captivated audiences over an unforgettable four-night run.
The production, based on Mark Haddon’s award-winning novel and adapted for the stage by Simon Stephens, follows the journey of Christopher Boone, a 15-year-old boy with autism, as he unravels the mystery behind a neighbour’s dog’s death. Year 13 student Sam Snook delivered a truly exceptional performance in the lead role, bringing Christopher’s unique perspective to life with depth and sensitivity. His portrayal was supported by a phenomenal ensemble of students, who seamlessly transitioned between roles to create the fast-paced, immersive world of the play.
Miss Leonard, Director and Curriculum Leader for Performing Arts, praised the students’ dedication: “This production has been an incredible journey for everyone involved. From the intricate physical theatre sequences inspired by Frantic Assembly to the demanding emotional depth of the script, the cast and crew have truly surpassed themselves. It has been a joy to work with such a hardworking and talented group of students.”
The production was further elevated by a dedicated technical and backstage crew, made up of students who played a vital role in set construction, lighting, sound, and stage management. The immersive staging and innovative use of movement made for a visually striking and emotionally powerful performance.
Reflecting on the show’s success, Headteacher Mr. John shared his thoughts:“Once again, our students have demonstrated outstanding talent, creativity, and commitment. The production was truly a professional-standard performance, and I am incredibly proud of everyone involved. A huge thank you to Miss Leonard and the Performing Arts team for their dedication in making this such a memorable experience for both the students and the audience.”
With another fantastic production now complete, Whitchurch High School’s Performing Arts Department continues to set the bar high for future performances. Congratulations to the entire cast and crew for delivering an unforgettable theatrical experience!
