Double Champions

Year 7 Cardiff & Welsh Champions: A Remarkable Achievement

The Whitchurch High School Year 7 football team has etched their names in history as they clinched not one, but two prestigious titles - the Cardiff & Vale Cup and the Welsh Cup!

Their journey to glory began on Tuesday, May 7th, in a thrilling encounter against Glantaf, where William Sturdy's last-minute heroics secured their first trophy with a 2-1 victory.

The excitement continued on Sunday, May 12th, as our Year 7s traveled to Park Hall, home of the Welsh Champions, The New Saints, to face Ysgol Bro Pedr from Lampeter.

Under the guidance of coaches Mr. Evans, Mr. Burnett, and Mr. Morris, our boys showcased exceptional talent and teamwork. Quick goals from Harry McCarthy, Jack Wells, and Aaron Mayer propelled Whitchurch to a commanding 3-0 lead in the first half. Despite Bro Pedr's efforts to mount a comeback, Aaron Mayer and Jack Wells extended the lead to 5-0 at halftime.

The second half saw no let-up from our boys, with Jack Wells completing his hat trick with a stunning left-footed volley from 25 yards out. Although Bro Pedr managed to pull one back, our team's resilience sealed a resounding 6-1 victory, making them only the third side in our school's history to achieve the coveted double.

Congratulations to our Year 7 boys on this remarkable feat!
