Bridging Continents Through Sport


In the spirit of fostering international connections and sporting camaraderie, Whitchurch High School proudly announces the revival of its sporting exchange program with Wairarapa College, New Zealand. Spearheaded by the initiative of Mr. Zeb Aporo, rugby coordinator and a former participant of the exchange himself in 2001, this endeavour marks a significant milestone in the school's commitment to global engagement and athletic excellence.

Mr. Aporo's personal connection to the exchange program fuelled his passion to reignite this invaluable opportunity for students. His recent visit to Wairarapa College served as a catalyst, where he presented the exchange proposal to rugby students, inviting them to partake in this enriching experience. Drawing inspiration from the success stories of past participants like Rhemus Hullett, Honor┬áMita, Le’Sharn Paku, and Mitchell Shields, who thrived through the exchange from 2022 to 2024, Mr. Aporo's visit was met with enthusiasm and anticipation.

Moreover, Mr. Aporo's dedication transcended borders as he explored the possibility of forging another rugby exchange link with Nelson College, New Zealand. Such initiatives not only strengthen ties between schools but also foster a sense of global citizenship among students, promoting cultural understanding and mutual respect.

As the program gains momentum, two Whitchurch High School students, Iestyn Hutchings and Theo Lewis, who will embark on a remarkable adventure to New Zealand following their A-level exams in June. Beyond the rugby matches and athletic pursuits, these students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of New Zealand's culture, staying with local families and forging lifelong friendships.
