DT Derby

Exciting Visit from Aston Martin Team at Annual DT Derby

We were incredibly fortunate to host the team from Aston Martin at our annual DT Derby, a highlight in our Design and Technology (DT) department’s calendar. The event, coordinated by our dedicated Faculty Leader for Technology, Mike Williams, was a resounding success.

The DT Derby, held every year, brings together students to showcase their engineering skills and creativity through exciting competitions. This year was particularly special as the winners were rewarded with an exclusive VIP tour of the Aston Martin factory—a dream opportunity for any budding engineer.
A standout moment of the event was the return of Owen Bell, a past pupil who is now an apprentice at Aston Martin. Owen’s journey from our classrooms to a prestigious apprenticeship at Aston Martin serves as an inspiring example for our current students, showing them the potential career paths their hard work can lead to.

The grand finale of the day featured the first-ever Inter School Derby, where Whitchurch High School raced against Y Pant School. The atmosphere was electric as students cheered on their teams, and we are proud to announce that Whitchurch High School emerged victorious in this thrilling race.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Aston Martin team for their involvement and support, which made this year’s DT Derby unforgettable. We are already looking forward to next year’s event and the exciting opportunities it will bring for our students.
