We recently gathered at Whitchurch High School's Autumn Showcase concert to celebrate the outstanding musical talents within our school community. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the prestigious Chris Sharp Memorial Award, an honour bestowed upon a deserving musician who exemplifies the passion and skill that Chris himself once brought to our school.
This year, the recipient of the Chris Sharp Memorial Award is none other than the incredibly talented Year 9 student, Evie Giles. The concert hall was filled with anticipation as Evie showcased her musical prowess, leaving an indelible mark on everyone present. Evie's performance included a soulful rendition of Sam Fender's 'Seventeen Going Under,' where her powerful vocals and emotive delivery resonated with the audience. Her ability to connect with the music and convey its depth was truly remarkable for someone of her age.
Not only did Evie shine as a solo performer, but she also displayed her exceptional guitar skills as an integral part of both the swing band and the boys' vocal ensemble. Her versatility and dedication to her craft were evident, making her a standout choice for this year's award.
The Chris Sharp Memorial Award holds special significance for our school community, as it pays tribute to the memory of a former student who, tragically, lost his life in a road accident on his way home from school. Chris was a gifted guitar player, and the award named in his honour serves as a perpetual reminder of the impact that music can have on our lives. Evie’s achievement not only adds to the rich tapestry of our school's musical heritage but also inspires future generations of musicians to pursue their passion with unwavering commitment.
