Shwmae Day

Shwmae Su’mae Day is back and celebrating its tenth year.

The day, which takes place on Monday, was devised to promote the idea of starting every conversation in Welsh with a “Shwmae” or “Su’mae”. The first ever Shwmae Su’mae Day took place on October 15, 2013, and for ten years now it has encouraged people to share the Welsh language with others, be it in school, at the shops, or out and about with friends.

It is celebrated throughout Wales and beyond – with special events including coffee shops and workshops being held from Mold to Newport, from Anglesey to Patagonia – and is the brainchild of umbrella group Dathlu’r Cymraeg, who hope that a single “Shwmae” or “Su’mae” could inspire thousands of people to start every conversation in Welsh in future.

With a 2 year break, Shwmae Su'mae Day returns, this year our students took part in Welsh activities during the day publicising and promoting the Welsh Language and Welsh culture! See below for a video montage from the day. Bendigedig!
