Transects at Newton Beach

Our Year 10 GCSE Biologists ventured to Newton Beach, Porthcawl to investigate line transects as part of their GCSE qualification and fieldwork with a spot of rock pooling for good measure. A transect is a line across a habitat or part of a habitat. It can be as simple as a string or rope placed in a line on the ground. The number of organisms of each species along a transect can be observed and recorded at regular intervals. To learn more about transects in the 'Classification and Biodiversity' topic, click here.
