Art Textiles

This two-year Art Textiles course covers a wide range of art and textiles activities and is designed for students who have a genuine interest in the subject.

To complete the course, students need to produce one unit of coursework and one unit of exam work. In Year 10, students begin work on set projects but are encouraged to interpret the projects as imaginatively and originally as possible. By the end of Year 10, students are working on their own theme with guidance from their teacher.

The course will include the following options:

  • Surface pattern design
  • Constructed textiles
  • Dyed fabrics
  • Drawing and designing
  • Printed fabrics
  • Fashion and textile design
  • Image transfer and printmaking techniques
  • Stitched and/or embellished textiles.

Work is not limited to one area of study.

At the end of the two years students mount an exhibition of their coursework unit and exam work. 60% of the final mark is allocated to coursework, 40% to the practical examination.

The final practical examination takes place around Easter in Year 11. Students are able to select any media for their exam work. Examination papers are received 8 weeks before the examination date, enabling students plenty of time to prepare for the examination. The examination takes place over 2 days.

All coursework should be completed by the end of February in Year 11.
