This two-year Art GCSE course covers a wide range of art and design activities and is designed for students who have a genuine interest in the subject.
To complete the course, students need to produce one unit of coursework and one unit of exam work. In Year 10, students begin work on set projects but are encouraged to interpret the projects as imaginatively and originally as possible. By the end of Year 10, students are working on their own theme with guidance from their teacher.
The course will include the following options:
At the end of the two years students mount an exhibition of their coursework unit and exam work. 60% of the final mark is allocated to coursework, 40% to the practical examination.
The final practical examination takes place before Easter in Year 11. Students are able to select any media for their exam work. Examination papers are received 8 weeks before the examination date, enabling students plenty of time to prepare for the examination. The examination takes place over 2 days.
All coursework should be completed by Easter Year 11.
